He served in the military 8 Aug 1862 to June 1865 in Virginia, USA. Sergeant of Capt. Minott A. Pruyn's Company, 1st Regiment of Mounted Rifles, NY State Volunteers. He was married to Caroline Merrill Boyd on 18 Aug 1862 in Phelps, Ontario County, NY, USA.

23. Caroline Merrill Boyd was born on 12 Feb 1840 in Phelps, Ontario County, NY, USA. She resided on 15 Oct 1894 in Valley Falls, NY, USA. She died on 30 Jun 1904 in Newburyport, MA, USA. Children were:
